As a visual artist, do you both long for and dread openings for your work? A gallery opening may mean a sale, but it also means you’ll have to talk to people. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to prepare – and practice – communicating with buyers. People buy art because 1. They like it; 2. They buy a piece of the artist.
This workshop will help you create the slice you can tell people to encourage their interest. We’ll use freewriting exercises to help you find the piece you want to tell. Freewriting allows you to SEE what you didn’t know you knew. For example, early influencers like teachers, family, comic books or bright colors; conflicts or challenges and how you moved beyond them; your vision for your work. And most important, we’ll practice speaking out loud.
